FG applauds Team Nigeria’s strong start at Paris 2024 Paralympics

The Federal Ministry of Sports Development has expressed delight at the impressive performances of Team Nigeria’s para badminton athletes on the opening day of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Ministry in a recent statement, commended the athletes for their outstanding performances and stated that it remained confident that they will continue to represent Nigeria with pride and excellence.

Representing Nigeria at the tournament, Mariam Eniola Bolaji and Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna showcased exceptional skill and determination in their first matches, setting a positive tone for Nigeria’s participation in the global event. Bolaji triumphed in the women’s SL3 event, defeating India’s Mandeep Kaur with a decisive 2-0 (21-8, 21-14) victory. Her agility and tactical play were key factors in her commanding win, demonstrating her readiness to excel in the competition.

Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna also shone brightly in the men’s SL4 category, securing a 2-0 (21-12, 21-15) victory against Germany’s Marcel Adam. Nnanna’s relentless strategy and control throughout the match proved too strong for his opponent, marking a successful start to his Paralympic campaign.

Both athletes will continue their quest for glory in the group stages on Friday, August 30. Bolaji is set to compete against Australia’s Celine Aurelie Vinot, while Nnanna will face Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan.
