NCAA to probe British Airways over delayed flights at airport
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has begun an investigation into the recurring delays of British Airways flights at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, the authority disclosed it was alerted to the issue after flights arriving and departing from Abuja experienced significant delays for three consecutive days, beginning on August 27, 2024. These delays it noted, have caused considerable inconvenience to passengers.
In response to the situation, the NCAA revealed it has reached out to British Airways to determine the cause of these delays. The investigation will include intensified inspections under the NCAA/ICAO Foreign Aircraft Safety Assessment Programme (FASAP) to ensure all aircraft on Nigerian routes comply with regulatory standards.
The aviation authority further assured the public that it is taking all necessary steps to safeguard passenger rights and is committed to supporting the Ministry of Aviation’s policy to reduce unnecessary flight delays.
