The federal government has praised the Super Eagles for their determination and fighting spirit at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite their semi-final exit from the tournament.
Nigeria’s campaign ended on Wednesday after the Atlas Lions of Morocco defeated the Super Eagles on penalties to secure a place in the AFCON final.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, commended the players for their discipline, teamwork, and resilience throughout the competition, describing these qualities as values that resonate strongly with the nation.
According to the minister, the team’s performance earned the admiration and appreciation of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora, regardless of the outcome.
Idris said the Super Eagles represented the country with pride and dignity, noting that their commitment and fighting spirit reflected the true meaning of wearing the national colours.
He added that the team’s journey in the tournament served as a reminder that representing Nigeria goes beyond winning trophies, emphasising courage, unity, and perseverance. The minister urged the players to remain confident, learn from the experience, and return stronger in future competitions, assuring them of the nation’s continued support and pride.
Western Post reports that BUA Group Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu has announced he will still donate $500,000 to the Super Eagles despite their defeat to Morocco.
Rabiu had earlier pledged the donation if the team won the semi-final, but he said the players deserved recognition for their effort and commitment at the tournament.
