Ondo lawmaker challenges ex-colleague to substantiate social media allegations

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, has asked former House of Representatives member Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefisoye to either retract an allegation made against him or provide evidence to support it.

Akingbaso, in a statement, described the claim attributed to Adefisoye as false and malicious, suggesting it was aimed at garnering public sympathy following the former lawmaker’s decline in political relevance within the constituency.

Adefisoye was accused of posting a WhatsApp status on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, alleging that Akingbaso made inflammatory remarks during the last governorship campaign in Idanre.

The statement noted that the allegation would have been ignored, as with previous claims, but for the fact that it concerned the life and reputation of a prominent citizen of the state.

Akingbaso consequently demanded that Adefisoye provide concrete and verifiable evidence within 48 hours or withdraw the claim entirely.

He warned that failure to comply would be regarded as a deliberate attempt to malign his character through misinformation, adding that legal action would be pursued.

The lawmaker also described the allegation as cyberbullying and an abuse of social media, urging political actors to exercise restraint and responsibility.

He, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting Adefisoye’s response.
