FG denies appointing Agbonayinma as CCB chair

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Thursday, dismissed reports of the appointment of Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Segun Imohiosen, a spokesperson to the OSGF, referenced a 2029 circular which directed that the acting chairmanship duties be handed to the most senior officer at the bureau.

He therefore noted that a substantive chairman will only be appointed by President Tinubu, according to a report by The Nation newspaper on Thursday.

There were reports that President Bola Tinubu had approved the appointment of Agbonayinma as the CCB Chairman, citing a letter signed by the SGF, Senator Akume.

The report also stated a board member of the Bureau, Kankia Aliyu, was directed to immediately hand over its affairs to the most senior board member.

“There is no appointment by Mr president as per this particular CCB issue. The directive issued in line with the Circular of 2019 is that they should hand over the acting chairmanship capacity to the most senior officer at the CCB, Imohiosen stated.

“My brother, quote me, the case of appointment does not arise. Simply hand over to the most senior officer to hold sway until a substantive Chairman would be appointed by Mr. President.

“Remember, the appointment is still ongoing. So, anything can happen,” Imohiosen said.
