FG dismisses report claiming JAMB no longer required for university admissions

By Kunle Sanni –

The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports circulating in some newspapers and online platforms alleging that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the report as false and misleading, noting that it did not originate from the Ministry. He emphasized that at no time did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB’s role in the admission process had been removed.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” Dr. Alausa stated.

He reaffirmed that the established admission process through JAMB remains fully operational and advised the public to disregard any contrary information.

The Minister restated the Federal Ministry of Education’s full support and collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in the nation’s tertiary education admission system.

He added that the Ministry remains committed to protecting the integrity of the admission process and upholding merit and due process in all admissions.

Dr. Alausa also cautioned media outlets, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publication, warning that misinformation could create unnecessary confusion in the education sector.
