FG engages foreign military experts to train Nigerian soldiers

The Federal Government has enlisted elite foreign military experts to train Nigerian soldiers in counterterrorism and hostage rescue operations.

Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, disclosed this during the launch of a specialized training program for 800 soldiers in Kaduna State.

Abubakar emphasized that beyond training, the government is committed to equipping troops with modern technology and advanced weaponry to enhance their capacity to combat security threats effectively.

In the first phase of the program, 800 soldiers will undergo training, with another 800 set to follow. The minister noted that the decision to engage foreign experts was driven by the need to counter the evolving tactics of terrorist groups.

While he did not specify the countries providing the military experts, he confirmed that they were drawn from seven different nations.

“In the initial phase alone, 2,400 Nigerian soldiers will receive specialized training before the program moves into its second stage,” the minister disclosed.
