The Federal Government has launched a State-by-State Homeownership and Housing Development Campaign as part of its drive to close Nigeria’s housing gap.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, announced the initiative on Tuesday during the official opening of the 19th Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja.
Speaking at the Transcorp Hilton, Dangiwa said the campaign would involve close collaboration with state governments to unlock housing finance, structure viable projects, and fast-track the delivery of affordable homes.
“We will embed Housing Reform Champions in State Governments, convene State Housing Roundtables, and provide hands-on support to drive implementation,” he stated.
The minister reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on housing, anchored on structural reforms and a three-tier delivery plan: Renewed Hope Cities, Renewed Hope Estates, and Renewed Hope Social Housing Estates.
So far, the federal government has attracted over ₦70 billion in private sector investment through public-private partnerships (PPPs) to fund urban housing projects.
Dangiwa also spotlighted financial interventions by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), including the Rent-to-Own Scheme and the Rental Assistance Product to support access to housing.
He added that the soon-to-be-launched MOFI Real Estate Investment Fund (MREIF) would provide long-term, low-cost mortgage financing to help Nigerians achieve homeownership.
