FG moves to support Jigawa’s sugar industry

The federal government has announced plans to collaborate with the Jigawa State Government to enhance sugar production in the country.

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, disclosed this on Thursday when he received Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, on a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Utsev asserted that the partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to accelerate food production, create jobs, empower youth, and drive sustainable economic growth.

Describing the collaboration as crucial for improving the lives of Nigerians, the minister assured that the Federal Government is committed to supporting Jigawa’s efforts to make the sugar factory fully operational.

He also revealed plans to embark on a working visit to the sugar factory in Jigawa to assess its water supply challenges and determine areas where the ministry can intervene.

Earlier, Governor Namadi explained that his administration was seeking the ministry’s support to ensure a steady and reliable water supply to the factory.

He added that this was critical to maintaining production, creating jobs, and boosting both the state and national economy.
