The Federal Government and the Lagos State Government on Monday strengthened their collaboration to improve electricity supply in the state, with stakeholders identifying practical measures to address challenges across the power sector.

The commitment formed the thrust of discussions at the Ministerial Implementation Retreat with Federal Authorities on the Clean Lagos Electricity Market (CLEM), hosted by the Lagos State Government.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, said the retreat was designed to move beyond discussions and establish practical interventions capable of delivering a more reliable electricity market for Lagos.

Tegbe said the engagement focused on key areas, including the electricity market, regulatory framework, and technical and operational challenges requiring immediate and long-term solutions.

He noted that Lagos remained critical to the nation’s electricity demand, making effective collaboration among federal and state institutions essential to expanding access to reliable power across the state.

Speaking on the outcome of the engagement, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the discussions as frank and productive, saying participants addressed the major challenges confronting the electricity sector and proposed practical solutions.

Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction with the level of participation by key institutions, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Rural Electrification Agency and other stakeholders across the power sector.

The governor said the ultimate objective was to ensure that the benefits of the collaboration were felt by electricity consumers and residents, stressing the need to translate the retreat’s resolutions into tangible outcomes. He added that the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving a more reliable and sustainable electricity supply across the country, with Lagos playing a strategic role in that effort.
