FG reaffirms commitment to economic recovery, democratic growth — Minister Idris

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to economic recovery, investor confidence, and the deepening of democratic values.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Forbes Africa to mark this year’s Democracy Day, Idris praised President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda, describing the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates as bold but necessary decisions.

“These were difficult decisions that had to be made,” the Minister said. “They caused some turbulence, but like an aircraft taking off, we are now reaching stability. The World Bank has noted our return to growth levels not seen in over a decade.”

He noted that the Democracy Day celebration is not only a time for celebration but also a moment of sober reflection on Nigeria’s democratic journey and economic renewal.

According to Idris, funds saved from the fuel subsidy removal are already being channeled into major infrastructure projects, including two highway corridors spanning over 1,700 kilometres. He said the goal is to stimulate economic activity and enhance regional connectivity.

“The aim is not just connectivity, but economic opportunity,” he stated.

Idris added that Nigeria is regaining its international standing, with renewed investor confidence and growing respect from the global community.

He emphasized that the reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda go beyond fiscal policies, aiming instead to build a more inclusive, accountable, and sustainable economic foundation for the country.
