FG reviews school curricula for basic, senior secondary, technical levels

The Federal Government has announced the successful completion of a comprehensive review of curricula across basic, senior secondary, and technical education levels to improve learning outcomes and align with global standards.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Swaibu Said Ahmad stated that the review was carried out in collaboration with key education stakeholders, including NERDC, UBEC, NSSEC, NBTE, and other relevant agencies.
Under the revised structure, primary school pupils in grades 1–3 will take 9 to 10 subjects, while those in grades 4–6 will take 10 to 12 subjects. Junior Secondary School students will study 12 to 14 subjects, while Senior Secondary School students will take 8 to 9 subjects. Technical school students will have 9 to 11 subjects.
Professor Ahmad emphasized that the new curriculum aims to reduce content overload, promote deeper learning, and better prepare students for the challenges of a fast-changing world.
The Ministry assured the public that strict monitoring will accompany the implementation to ensure effective adoption in schools nationwide.
