FG: Traditional rulers critical to national security, unity

The federal government has described traditional rulers as critical partners in tackling security challenges, promoting national unity and driving development across the country.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima stated this on Thursday when he received the 17th Emir of Gumel, Dr Lawan Ahmed Sani, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Shettima said President Bola Tinubu’s administration held the traditional institution in high regard because of its role in preserving cultural values, maintaining peace and strengthening cohesion among communities.

“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government continues to hold traditional rulers in high esteem as the fathers of the nation and vital partners in advancing national security and unity,” he said.

The Vice-President described traditional rulers as custodians of the country’s heritage and important links between the government and the people.

“Traditional rulers serve as our parents and the mirror of our society, safeguarding our noble traditions of peace,” he added.

Shettima commended the new Emir for his commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence, expressing confidence that his experience in technology and public service would contribute to development in the Gumel Emirate and beyond.

In his remarks, Sani thanked the Tinubu administration for its support, particularly following the death of his predecessor, Ahmad Muhammad Sani II.
