FG urges indigenous companies to take advantage of Nigeria First Policy

By Kunle Sanni –
The Federal Government has urged indigenous companies to maximise the opportunities presented by the Nigeria First Policy, a strategic initiative aimed at promoting local content, stimulating economic growth, and strengthening domestic industries.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the call when the Managing Director and Founder of Solewant Group, Solomon Ewanehi, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Akume reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for Nigerian businesses to thrive. He noted that the Nigeria First Policy is already yielding positive results and encouraged local companies to leverage the initiative to reduce the country’s dependence on imported products and services.
The SGF commended Ewanehi for the strides Solewant Group is making in harnessing opportunities arising from the divestment of foreign International Oil Companies (IOCs). He praised the company’s investments in steel pipes, metal fabrication, and specialised coating solutions within the oil and gas sector.
Earlier, Ewanehi said Solewant Group is expanding its operations in steel pipe production, coating materials, and the supply of coated pipes to the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and across Africa. He noted that the company is aligned with the Federal Government’s directive to the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) and other industry stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at boosting crude oil production.
He also briefed the SGF on plans to host the 9th Africa Energy Summit, scheduled for 27–28 November 2025 in Port Harcourt. The summit will bring industry experts together to explore strategies for increasing crude oil productivity and enhancing Africa’s competitiveness in the global energy market.
