FG woos investors as Creative Economy Week 2025 kicks off

The Federal Government has declared Nigeria’s creative industry a prime destination for investment, urging both local and international stakeholders to tap into the vast opportunities in arts, culture, tourism, and entertainment.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Mukhtar Mohammed, made the call on Thursday in Abuja at a press conference to announce the commencement of Creative Economy Week 2025.

Mohammed described the industry as a “secure, high-yield frontier for strategic investment,” stressing that Nigeria’s creative talents — from Nollywood and Afrobeats to fashion and visual arts — have become a global cultural force shaping perceptions and influencing markets worldwide.

He noted that while the sector is brimming with raw talent, it requires structure, financing, and international partnerships to achieve its full potential. According to him, the government’s collaboration with the British Council is designed to deliver practical outcomes, including skills development, intellectual property protection, creative entrepreneurship, digital distribution, and greater access to global markets.

“This is not a dialogue of aid, but one of mutual benefit,” Mohammed said, explaining that the UK brings world-class infrastructure and financing models, while Nigeria offers unmatched innovation, compelling content, and a massive youthful market.

He added that the Federal Government is building a robust ecosystem to help Nigerian creatives protect and monetize their work globally.

British Council Country Director, Donna McGowan, also spoke at the event, highlighting the contribution of the creative industries to the UK economy, which she said generates £124 billion annually and provides 2.4 million jobs.

The Creative Economy Week 2025, jointly organised by the Ministry and the British Council, is expected to spotlight opportunities, foster partnerships, and attract investments that will further strengthen Nigeria’s position as a global creative hub.
