Finance Minister hails Customs’ ₦3.7trn revenue, unveils digital trade reforms

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to modernising trade systems and boosting revenue, as the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) continues to exceed expectations.
Speaking at the 62nd meeting of the NCS Board in Abuja, Edun disclosed that Customs generated ₦3.7 trillion in the first half of 2025 — 12.5 percent above budget and 25 percent higher than the same period in 2024. He described the performance as commendable but stressed the need for deeper reforms to meet the administration’s ambitious revenue targets.
A key plank of these reforms, he noted, is the National Single Window Initiative, a digital trade platform scheduled for full rollout in 2026. The initiative is designed to streamline import and export processes, cut delays, reduce costs, and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness.
“The National Single Window will give Customs the speed and capacity to process trade more effectively, boosting revenue and positioning Nigeria as a more attractive hub for investment,” Edun said.
The board also approved governance improvements within the Service, including senior appointments and promotions, aimed at upholding professional standards and strengthening institutional capacity.
Edun explained that the reforms are in line with President Bola Tinubu’s wider economic strategy, which focuses on stabilising inflation and exchange rates while building a transparent, technology-driven trade ecosystem.
According to him, the combination of record revenue performance and modernisation efforts reflects the government’s determination to encourage private investment and drive sustainable economic growth.
