Fire destroys power house at Oyo Ministry of Lands

A fire has gutted a power house used as a store by the Oyo State Ministry of Lands within the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The incident occurred on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.

“The firemen were promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, they found that the fire had affected a power house used as a store,” Akinwande said.

He explained that the fire was caused by electrical sparks which ignited nearby combustible materials. “The firemen quickly cut off the electricity supply and extinguished the fire completely, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building,” he added.

Akinwande noted that properties worth billions of naira were saved and no casualties were recorded.

Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage.
