Fire destroys shops, goods worth millions in Ondo market

A midnight fire destroyed several shops and business premises at Mimiko Market in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, with goods and valuables worth millions of naira reportedly lost in the inferno.

The fire, which started around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, caused panic among traders and residents as the flames spread through sections of the market.

Several shops were reportedly affected, while merchandise, equipment and other business property were consumed by the blaze.

Meanwhile, traders and residents made frantic efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.

The incident attracted a large crowd, with residents gathering around the market as efforts were made to put out the flames.

However, the cause of the fire remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.

An eyewitness said the damage was extensive, although the exact value of the property destroyed could not immediately be established.
