Fire guts Ibadan duplex, destroys properties worth millions

Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed on Monday after a fire broke out at a duplex in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Lane 2 of the estate, when the sitting room of the building was engulfed in flames.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said the fire was caused by an electrical surge from an appliance left plugged in.

He explained that firefighters, led by ACFS Adedeji, responded promptly and were able to put out the fire before it spread to other parts of the building.

“Only items in the sitting room were affected, and the entire property was saved from complete destruction. No casualty was recorded,” Akinwande said.

The swift intervention of the fire service prevented the inferno from consuming the whole building and nearby structures.
