A fire outbreak has destroyed properties worth millions of Naira in a six-room residential building at Elere House, Gold and Rock area, Oyo Town, Oyo State.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, attributing the fire to an electrical surge following power restoration by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
“The fire incident was reported to our station at exactly 12:24 hours. Fire personnel, led by ACFS Oyedeji, were promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, we found a private residential building with six rooms engulfed in flames,” Akinyinka said.
He noted that the firefighters acted swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
“Properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed, but no casualties were recorded. Our officers successfully protected surrounding buildings and properties worth billions of Naira,” he added.
The fire service reiterated the importance of electrical safety and urged residents to install surge protectors to prevent similar incidents.
