Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has commiserated with traders at Aleshinloye Market following a fire outbreak on Wednesday.
Represented by Deputy Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, Makinde conveyed the government’s sympathy to the victims during an on-the-spot assessment of the incident.
He assured traders that the government would provide immediate support once a full report of the incident is received.
The governor also directed the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the LCDA to ensure adequate security at the market.
“This is a major and popular market, and this incident is deeply painful. Please be assured that the government will provide the necessary support. It is our prayer that such an incident does not happen again.
“We have visited, assessed the situation, and engaged with market men and women. The fire spread rapidly due to the nature of some businesses, particularly plastics. However, we are grateful to God that no lives were lost.
“As a government, we will provide immediate support through the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (Oyo SEMA).
“We will also collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and public-spirited individuals to offer further assistance to the victims.”
