Fire razes Alaba Rago market in Lagos
A popular Lagos market, Alaba Rago was gutted by fire in the early hour of Wednesday.
Although, the cause of the fire remains unknown as at the time of filing this report, but goods worth millions was said to be destroyed in the fire disaster.
The market is situated in the Ojo local government area of Lagos State.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Femi Oke-Osayintolu, said that the fire started at midnight of Wednesday.
Oke-Osayintolu disclosed that the LASEMA team quickly went to the market following a distress call.
He added that the authority activated the state’s emergency response plan and sent their team from Igando to help.
He stated that the team found some makeshift shops already on fire when they arrived at the scene, adding that firefighters from the state Fire and Rescue Service, with LASEMA and other emergency workers, were on the scene working to put out the flames.
Also, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye and Oke-Osayintolu, stated that the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby structures.
