Owo Local Government has banned the sale and use of fireworks, including bangers and knockouts, throughout the area during the Christmas season to ensure public safety.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement by Tolulope Adeyefa, Media Assistant to the Acting Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Hammed.
The directive followed a security meeting where council officials and stakeholders agreed that tighter measures were needed to maintain order and protect residents during the festivities.
The statement noted that security operatives have been instructed to enforce the ban in all communities, with offenders facing legal sanctions.
The council added that it is intensifying collaboration with security agencies to safeguard lives and property during the celebrations.
Hammed appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to prevent security breaches.
He also extended his festive goodwill to the people of Owo, urging them to celebrate responsibly while adhering to the new regulations.
