Flying Eagles arrive in Ghana for 2025 WAFU B U-20 Championship

Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have arrived in Ghana ahead of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B U-20 Championship, which is set to kick off on Thursday, July 10.
The team traveled via Africa World Airlines and landed in Accra on Monday night after a one-hour flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The Flying Eagles are placed in Group A alongside host nation Ghana and Benin Republic. Group B consists of Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Togo.
Aliyu Zubairu’s side will begin their campaign with a high-stakes encounter against Ghana on July 10 before facing Benin Republic on Sunday, July 13.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals of the regional youth competition, which is a key platform for scouting emerging football talent in West Africa.
Initially postponed, the tournament is now scheduled to hold from July 10 to 23, 2025, marking the return of one of the region’s most prestigious youth competitions.
The WAFU B U-20 tournament offers Nigeria another opportunity to reassert its dominance in youth football and develop the next generation of national stars.
