Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for transforming Ibadan into a more livable city through people-oriented projects aimed at improving transportation and urban development.

Obasanjo gave the commendation on Wednesday at the commissioning of the Ibadan Central Bus Terminal on Iwo Road, Ibadan. The facility comprises two modern bus stations equipped with waiting halls, ticketing spaces, eateries, public conveniences, parking areas, power and water supply facilities, elevators, and escalators.

Speaking at the event, the former president applauded Governor Makinde’s commitment to infrastructural development, noting that the construction of four major bus terminals at Ojoo, Challenge, New Ife Road, and Iwo Road will greatly enhance movement within the metropolis.

Obasanjo further described Makinde as an Omoluabi and urged him to remain steadfast despite criticisms, adding, “Those who abuse you today will praise you tomorrow.”

In his remarks, Governor Makinde explained that the bus terminals are part of his administration’s vision to modernize Oyo State and address the transportation challenges common to large cities.

“Our goal is to engineer a modern Oyo State by creating an efficient transport system that supports economic growth,” the governor said. “We have also constructed a dual carriageway from Iwo Road to Adegbayi to reduce congestion and have applied to the Federal Government for an extension to Asejire.”

Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to executing developmental projects without political bias, emphasizing that the people’s welfare remains his top priority.

The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and residents, who hailed the governor’s infrastructural achievements.
