The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has confirmed the arrest of four suspected bandits around the Akure Airport area in Ondo State following a coordinated security operation.

Disclosing this development in a statement made public on Sunday night, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, Henry Agbebire, explained that the suspects were apprehended after a distress alert was raised about suspicious persons spotted behind the airport perimeter, near Eleyeowo community.

Agbebire said the report prompted an immediate response from security operatives stationed at the airport and other agencies in the area.

He noted that the operation was a joint one, comprising FAAN’s Aviation Security, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, some of the individuals attempted to escape when the security operatives closed in on them, however, four of them were eventually arrested during the operation.

“The suspects have been taken into custody and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation and investigation,” the director stated.

Reacting to the development, FAAN commended the swift collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, the police, Amotekun operatives and local vigilantes whose joint efforts led to the arrest.

The authority went on to reassure travelers and residents around the airport that it remains committed to strengthening security around airport facilities and preventing unlawful access across airports in the country.
