The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected collaborators accused of supplying food and other items to kidnappers operating in Ilu-Abo community and nearby areas.

While giving details of the incident on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

Jimoh revealed that the suspects, identified as Alhassan Muhammad, 20, and Faruq Muhammad Sanni, 25, both residents of Sabon-Sango in Akure, were apprehended on March 15 following credible intelligence from a member of the Ilu-Abo community.

According to him, the information indicated that one of the suspects, a commercial motorcyclist, had been helping kidnappers to purchase and deliver food as well as other supplies to their hideouts.

He explained that operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad swiftly acted on the intelligence and carried out a targeted operation in the area.

The police spokesman added that the operation led to the arrest of the two suspects, while other members of the gang fled upon sighting security operatives.

He noted that efforts were ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang, while the apprehended suspects would be interrogated before being charged to court.
