FRSC engages motorists on safe driving, continues distribution of water during Yuletide

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State on Wednesday engaged motorists on safe driving practices as it continued the distribution of bottled water to travellers during the Yuletide season.

The exercise took place along the Ilesha–Akure–Owo highway as part of the Corps’ efforts to promote road safety and reduce accidents during the busy Christmas travel period.

The State Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, led the initiative alongside other officers, describing it as a demonstration of care for motorists, especially those embarking on long-distance journeys during the festivities.

According to him, the programme was designed to sensitise motorists on patience, safe driving habits and adherence to traffic regulations, while the distribution of water was intended to help drivers stay refreshed and alert on the road.

“This is part of an advocacy programme for all motorists. There is a need for them to be patient on the road. The water will help them quench their thirst and drive with care. The message is about patience, safe driving, avoiding unnecessary speeding and not overloading vehicles. Motorists must also care for other road users and avoid road rage so that all Nigerians can travel safely on the highways,” Ibitoye said.

He further advised drivers to avoid distractions while driving and to adopt defensive driving techniques as a way of reducing road crashes during the festive season.

Ibitoye also reminded road users to obey traffic laws throughout the holiday period and wished them a safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

One of the motorists, who preferred to remain anonymous, commended the FRSC for the initiative, noting that it would encourage drivers to be more cautious and help curb reckless driving on the highways.
