FRSC gives two-week deadline for vehicle registration in Osun

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Sector Command, has issued a two-week ultimatum to owners of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in the state to comply with vehicle registration laws or face legal consequences.

The Sector Public Education Officer, Agnes Ogungbemi, announced the ultimatum on behalf of the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, during a media briefing in Osogbo over the weekend.

The command warned that at the expiration of the grace period, the FRSC—working in collaboration with the Osun State Board of Internal Revenue and other relevant agencies—will launch a special one-week enforcement operation within Osogbo and its environs to arrest and prosecute offenders.

The announcement is part of activities marking the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week (12–18 May 2025), themed “Streets for Life: #MakeWalkingSafe, #MakeCyclingSafe.”

Ogungbemi disclosed that recent research conducted by the Corps revealed a growing number of unregistered vehicles, especially motorcycles and cars, on township roads and highways, many of which display dealer plates or no number plates at all.

“This trend poses serious security threats to the people of Osun State,” she said. “Some of these vehicles are deliberately unregistered or fitted with fake plates and are being used as getaway vehicles in criminal activities.”

She added that intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS) shows that many unregistered motorcycles are used to perpetrate crimes under the guise of commercial transportation.

Ogungbemi also highlighted the growing menace of one-way driving on Osun roads, describing it as a “highly prevalent killer” and a serious contributor to road traffic accidents in the state.
