Fubara not at loggerheads with Rivers Assembly over 2026 budget — Govt

The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports of a disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state House of Assembly over the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The government, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Fubara was working closely with members of the Assembly in the interest of the people of the state.

It described reports suggesting a rift between the executive and legislative arms as misleading, stressing that the governor was not at loggerheads with the lawmakers.

According to the statement, the 2026 budget proposal has already been presented to the House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process.

The government expressed confidence that the lawmakers would complete the process and pass the appropriation bill in due course.

It said the state had experienced difficult periods in the past and would not allow itself to be dragged into another round of controversies.

The government also urged individuals and groups promoting what it described as negative narratives to desist from such actions, stressing the need for peace and harmony in the state.

It said maintaining a peaceful environment was essential to ensuring steady development across Rivers State.
