Fubara reaffirms reconciliation with Wike, vows to prioritize Rivers’ progress

By Kunle Sanni –

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to peace in the state, declaring his readiness to make any necessary sacrifice to ensure lasting reconciliation — including mending ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, despite their political differences.

Speaking at a meeting with stakeholders of the “Simplified Movement” on Saturday, Fubara said, “I did say that there’s no price that is too big for peace — I meant it, and I’m still ready to follow it to the end.” He urged supporters to understand that true peace often demands difficult decisions and a united front, especially in a state grappling with political divisions.

The Governor confirmed that he and Wike have privately spoken as part of the reconciliation process. He acknowledged Wike’s immense contributions to the political development of Rivers State, describing his role as significant and undeniable.

“Nobody can take away the role the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, played — that’s the truth,” Fubara said. “Yes, we might have our differences, but nobody here will say he doesn’t know the role he played. Nobody can wish away the risk he took.”

While expressing loyalty to his supporters, Fubara urged them to look beyond personal grievances and focus on the greater interest of Rivers State. He lamented that several development projects had stalled due to the prolonged political crisis and emphasized the urgency of restoring peace.

“In the midst of this crisis between me and the FCT Minister, look at the projects we’ve initiated. Many have been abandoned,” he said. “So there’s need for this peace — that’s the truth.”

Using local wisdom to illustrate his point, Fubara referenced the native tilapia fish, Atabala, saying, “If you want to grow up to my size, hide your head inside the mud,” encouraging his supporters to exercise patience and strategic calm.

Fubara reiterated that the peace process is genuine and necessary, not just for the stability of Rivers State but also in support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the nation’s broader political stability.
