Fubara urges Eid prayers for peace as Rivers seeks political stability

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State says efforts are underway to restore political stability and revive the state’s economy amid ongoing challenges.
In a statement marking the Eid-al-Adha celebration, Fubara—through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi—encouraged Muslims to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith, which are central to the festival.
“The festival commemorates the deep devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command,” the statement noted. “It is observed globally with solemn prayers, animal sacrifices, and the sharing of meat with family, friends, and especially the less fortunate.”
The governor urged Muslims to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity, particularly as Nigeria grapples with insecurity and economic hardship. He emphasized the importance of forgiveness, compassion, and reconciliation during the season.
“Without a shared vision and determined action, meaningful progress cannot be achieved,” Fubara said. “I appeal to Muslims to use this period to show kindness to those in need, especially the poor and vulnerable.”
He acknowledged the support and patience of Rivers residents in the face of political turmoil, noting that while some aspirations remain unfulfilled, notable progress has been made.
Fubara reaffirmed that practical steps are being taken to address citizens’ concerns, stabilise governance, and revive the state’s economy. He concluded by wishing the Muslim faithful a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling Eid celebration.
President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara on March 18 after declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing a prolonged political crisis and attacks on oil facilities. Fubara has since visited the President in Lagos.
