Fuel scarcity: APC chieftain calls for investigation of NNPCL

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called for an investigation into the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to determine the root cause of the persistent fuel scarcity in the country.

Oyintiloye appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and address the recurring fuel shortages, emphasizing that the President’s intervention is crucial due to the suffering that Nigerians face almost monthly because of fuel scarcity.

Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Sunday, the APC chieftain noted that despite the removal of fuel subsidies, the situation has worsened, leading to higher prices and increased hardship for Nigerians.

Oyintiloye, a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said that while Nigerians are struggling to survive ongoing economic challenges, the inadequate supply of fuel exacerbates an already tense situation.

“In recent months, Nigerians have struggled to obtain petroleum products at filling stations across the country,” Oyintiloye stated. “I appeal to the President to rescue Nigerians who are enduring severe hardship due to fuel scarcity.

“Fuel scarcity is becoming a routine issue in Nigeria, which should not be the case. For the past few weeks, Nigerians have been sleeping in filling stations nationwide, trying to get fuel for their businesses and vehicles.

“Many filling stations do not have fuel, and those that do are selling it at exorbitant prices. Nigerians are enduring significant hardship, which is why the President must intervene to alleviate their suffering,” he added.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, urged the President to do everything possible to revamp the country’s four refineries, noting that if the refineries are restored to full operation, fuel scarcity would become a thing of the past. He also emphasized that the burden on the masses is becoming unbearable, emphasizing the need for urgent presidential intervention.
