FUTA confirms death of 100-level student, says investigation ongoing

The Federal University of Technology, Akure has confirmed the death of a 100-level student of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics, identified as Favour Olaniyi.
The institution disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo.
According to the statement, the student was discovered dead near his off-campus residence in Akure on Saturday under circumstances yet to be determined.
Adebanjo explained that the university’s security unit promptly alerted the police after the incident was reported to the management.
“Police officers were immediately deployed to the scene, while medical personnel and security operatives coordinated the evacuation of the body to the morgue,” he said.
The spokesman added that the deceased’s parents had been informed, noting that the police had commenced an investigation into the incident.
He stated that the university authorities were cooperating fully with security agencies while also offering counselling support to students affected by the tragic development.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the parents and family of the deceased during this difficult period,” Adebanjo added, encouraging students facing emotional or personal challenges to make use of the institution’s counselling and guidance services.
