Demonstrating his signature care for the underprivileged, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Friday attended a New Year funfair organized for adopted children, children with special needs, and inmates of the Juvenile Correctional Home.
The Governor danced and took photographs with the children and their caregivers, joining them to cut a cake in celebration of the new year.
The event was organized by the Kwara State Ministry of Social Development and attended by several government officials and senior civil servants, including the host Commissioner, Olaitan Abosede Buraimoh; Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Aliyu Kora Sabi; Special Adviser on Special Duties, AbdulRazhaq Jiddah; and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development, Peter Kayode Ayanwale.
The program featured musical performances and games such as first-to-sit contests, headgear-tying competitions, balloon blowing, and dance games. Winners in each category received prizes.
“We have come to celebrate these children with various challenges. This event is also to encourage and support their caregivers,” Governor AbdulRazaq told reporters at the event in Ilorin.
Commissioner Buraimoh stated that the program was organized to highlight the Governor’s commitment to children living with disabilities and to uplift those in juvenile homes, promoting inclusivity.
She expressed gratitude to the Governor for approving and attending the event, describing it as further proof of his child-friendly leadership.
The Permanent Secretary, Peter Kayode Ayanwale, who is visually impaired, commended the Governor for his active participation, noting that it exemplifies his passion for children with special needs.
“This is another inspiring example that others can learn from His Excellency,” Ayanwale added.
