Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the immediate release of funds to cover medical expenses for 13 students of Kwara origin who sustained injuries in an auto crash while returning to Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).
The Governor also conveyed a get-well-soon message to the affected students, praying for their speedy and complete recovery.
Eight of the students reportedly sustained varying degrees of bone fractures requiring urgent surgeries, while five others are undergoing different levels of medical treatment at the UDUS Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.
“The Governor has immediately released ₦5,250,000.00 to cover the cost of tests, scans, and other procedures and treatments already itemized by the hospital,” a government statement confirmed.
The students were involved in a motor accident along the Yauri–Sokoto Expressway in Kebbi State while en route back to school. Tragically, the driver of the vehicle lost his life in the crash.
The Kwara State Government expressed deep sympathy with the families of the affected students and assured them of continued support throughout their recovery process.
Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Kwara indigenes, especially students studying across the country, adding that no effort would be spared in responding to such emergencies.
Authorities at UDUS and the hospital have also pledged to ensure the students receive the best possible care, while counselling services have been arranged to support their emotional and psychological well-being during the recovery period.
