Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Wednesday visited Pututa and four other agrarian communities in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area, affected by flooding, to sympathise with residents over the disaster.

The affected communities are Tswako, Likpata, Godangi and Ekko, all in Lafiagi Ward 4, where residents have been impacted by the recurring floods.

AbdulRazaq described the situation as unfortunate and identified the dredging of the River Niger as a lasting solution, assuring residents that his administration would continue to pursue measures to address the problem.

At Pututa, the governor told the head of the community, Alhaji Muhammed Manko Ibrahim, that the government was working to address their challenges and directed the State Emergency Management Agency to assess the losses recorded for appropriate intervention.

He also provided N10 million to support the affected residents with immediate needs, including food, drinking water and medical care, while thanking the people of Kwara North, including the Lafiagi Emirate, for their support for his administration.

During the visit, AbdulRazaq inspected the College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, and the Lafiagi Stadium, both undergoing development, and pledged to intensify efforts to upgrade the college to a Federal University of Education.

The governor also said the state government would consider reopening the Gbugbu International Market, which was earlier closed for security reasons, while explaining that the zoning of the governorship ticket to Kwara North was aimed at accelerating development in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the Emir, the Somasun of Lafiagi, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, appreciated the governor for the visit and his administration’s development projects, including the donation of a Coaster bus to the College of Education (Technical), while appealing for the reopening of the Gbugbu International Market to boost commercial activities.
