Unknown assailants allegedly kill NDC ward chairman in Benue

The Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiidi Council Ward in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, Igbu Terhemen, has reportedly been killed by unknown assailants.

Terhemen was allegedly attacked and left unconscious in a bush near his residence around the NNPC Depot, along the Makurdi-Otukpo Road, on the outskirts of Makurdi.

A friend of the deceased, who spoke anonymously, said Terhemen left home on Tuesday evening to watch a football match in the Kanshio area but failed to return. Family members and friends later began searching for him and found him unconscious in a bush near his residence around 2am on Wednesday.

The friend said, “He left home to watch the match Tuesday evening and he was expected back home, but nobody saw him. It was while people were looking around for him that he was discovered around 2am Wednesday in a bush near his residence unconscious. Unfortunately, he died before he could get medical attention”.

The friend also alleged that Terhemen had a needle-like injury on his body, suggesting he may have been injected with a substance. His phone was reportedly found on him when he was taken to the morgue.

The NDC Benue State chapter condemned the alleged killing and called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. The party described Terhemen as a committed member who contributed to its growth in the state.

The state chairman of the party, Ohini Ojegbe, described the incident as a “broad-daylight evil” and urged security agencies to identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Peter Aondongu, said the command had not received a report of the incident when contacted.
