Gov Eno reiterates commitment to promoting creativity among youths

… Recommends inclusion of the visual conference in state’s tourism calendar

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering creativity among the state’s youth, ensuring that their talents are recognized and transformed into avenues for economic growth.

Governor Eno made this declaration at the inaugural edition of The Visual Conference (TVC) in Uyo, an initiative to celebrate the 2024 World Photography Day. The event aims to enhance the skills of emerging and established photographers, as well as other creatives in the state, enabling them to compete effectively on a global scale.

Describing the initiative as a significant departure from the norm, the Governor commended the creativity and resilience of his Chief Photographer for pioneering this initiative to elevate photography as an industry within the state. He recommended that such innovative events be incorporated into the State’s tourism calendar.

The Governor also advocated for the creation of a photo library that would serve as a vital repository of historical moments, preserving the state’s rich heritage.

Governor Eno, widely recognized for his dedication to youth development, encouraged young people in other creative sectors to form purposeful groups and develop ideas that would contribute value to the state.

“We are here tonight to support creativity and to celebrate an idea. We are here to encourage someone who has taken a bold step and a risk to bring something unique together. We are not just here to support Idara but to champion creativity and inspire our young people to express their ideas, no matter how small. We want to nurture their zeal and resilience,” he said.

The Governor praised Ms. Idara Adiakpan for her commitment and dedication to her craft, noting her consistent efforts to advance her constituency. He added, “Our presence here today is to motivate you to continue your great work and to inspire every young Akwa Ibomite to realize that their talents can indeed flourish in our state.”

Reflecting on his visit to the exhibition gallery, Governor Eno expressed his admiration for the works on display, all created by Akwa Ibomites. “I was amazed by the quality of work. I even asked if some pieces were paintings, only to learn they were all photography. I am incredibly impressed. You are redefining photography and setting a new standard. Now, more Chief Executives will recognize the value of having personal photographers who can tell their stories.”

He assured the youth of the government’s support, stating, “We are here for you. We are committed to walking with you and encouraging your efforts. If it feels challenging to approach us individually, unite as a group, because it is often easier to reach us that way. The future belongs to you. This is an open government, ready to collaborate with our youth to ensure their ideas and talents find expression.”

Miss Idara Adiakpan, the Chief Photographer to the Governor and host of the event, expressed her gratitude in her welcome speech. She thanked the Governor for the opportunity and support to elevate creative photography in the state as part of his administration’s ARISE Agenda.

She particularly appreciated the Governor for backing the event, which attracted some of Nigeria’s leading minds in the visual arts industry.

Miss Adiakpan explained that TVC is an initiative designed to empower and elevate the skills of 10,000 emerging and thriving indigenous photographers and creatives in Akwa Ibom State. The conference aims to equip, promote, and increase visibility for their works.

She urged her colleagues in the state to embrace the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno’s administration and leverage their creative talents to explore the vast opportunities available in the international marketplace.
