Gov Oyebanji installs new Obanla, urges monarchs to promote justice, fairness

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State installed the new Obanla of Ijesa-Isu, Oba David Oluwasegun Ateji, on Thursday, while urging traditional rulers to promote justice, fairness and inclusive leadership in their various communities.
Oyebanji, ably represented by his deputy, Monisade Afuye, spoke during the installation ceremony held in Ijesa-Isu Ekiti area of Ekiti State.
The governor described the Obanla throne as sacred and historically significant, adding that the emergence of the new monarch demonstrated that patience and respect for due process produces honourable results.
Oyebanji further disclosed that traditional rulers remain vital partners in governance, while advising the monarchs present to promote peace, unity and communal harmony
While commenting on the process of selection, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Olaiya Ojo Atibioke, said the selection process complied with the state’s chieftaincy laws and reflected the administration’s commitment to justice and fairness.
In his remarks, Oba Ateji, the new Obanla, pledged to unite the community and work with stakeholders to promote development in Ijesa-Isu, while calling on other contestants to set aside differences and support the progress of the town.
The newly installed Obanla is from the Omotoyo Royal Dynasty and succeeded late Oba Gabriel Oso Adeniyi of the Akoko Ruling House, who died on September 23, 2024.
