Governor Adeleke orders immediate rehabilitation of Olaiya Bridge
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo, the state capital, following concerns over its worsening condition ahead of the commissioning of the new Oke-Fia Flyover Bridge.
The governor, in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, gave the directive after a stopover at the bridge, where he instructed the Ministry of Works to begin work on restoring the facility.
He tasked the ministry with assessing the condition of the bridge, cleaning the structure, fixing any identified defects and ensuring it complements the recently completed Oke-Fia and Lameco flyover bridges.
“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Oke-Fia Bridge,” he said.
According to the governor, governance is a continuum, noting that his administration is committed to completing inherited projects while ensuring that infrastructure delivered by previous administrations is properly maintained.
“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” Adeleke said.
