Governor Eno lauds Bayelsa’s Douye Diri as pragmatic leader, commissions new road

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri for his transformational leadership, describing him as a pragmatic leader with a daring spirit for development.
Governor Eno made the remarks during the commissioning of Road 2 in New Yenagoa City, where he was the special guest of honor. He highlighted the challenging terrain of Bayelsa State and praised Governor Diri for undertaking and completing such a difficult project.
“It could only take a daring leader to venture into such a project,” Governor Eno said, emphasizing the significance of the newly constructed road.
Governor Eno also expressed gratitude for the invitation to commission the project, noting that it provided an opportunity to learn how to create new cities and foster development.
He praised the achievements of PDP governors in the South-South region and urged Bayelsa residents to continue supporting Governor Diri and the party to achieve more progress, emphasizing the importance of public support in motivating leaders to deliver.
“When a leader is supported and encouraged, he gets inspired to do more,” Eno remarked.
Eno, who has made notable strides in Akwa Ibom within two years of his administration, congratulated Governor Diri on his achievements in the first year of his second term. He revealed plans to invite Diri to Akwa Ibom in May 2025 to commission projects as part of his administration’s second-anniversary celebrations.
“We trust that other roads and several projects will be commissioned in Bayelsa State as we partner within the South-South to open a corridor for integration in trade, commerce, and development,” Eno added.
Governor Diri, in his remarks, highlighted the specifications of the new road, which measures 2.1km with dual carriageways of 7.3 meters on each side.
He noted that the road was constructed to international standards, similar to the quality of roads in Akwa Ibom State.
“We want our roads to be like Akwa Ibom roads because Akwa Ibom has some of the best roads in Nigeria,” Diri stated.
