ASUU commends UNIZIK lecturer for maturity following student assault

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) branch, has commended Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies for his professionalism and restraint following a violent assault by a student.

The student, identified as Goddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious from the Department of History and International Studies, reportedly attacked Dr. Okoye during a recent incident.

In a press statement issued on February 14, ASUU praised Dr. Okoye’s composure, calling it a testament to his character and professionalism.

“His actions have not only brought honour to himself but also to our union and the university community at large,” the statement read.

The union also acknowledged the prompt intervention of the university’s Acting Vice Chancellor, whose swift response reassured staff of their protection and demonstrated the institution’s commitment to a safe and respectful learning environment.

ASUU reiterated its commitment to defending the rights and interests of its members while ensuring a conducive academic atmosphere.

The statement, signed by ASUU Chairperson Comrade Joseph Onyejiaka and Secretary Comrade Kingsley Ubaoji, concluded with the union’s solidarity and support for Dr. Okoye.
