JABU at 20: CAC president urges stronger research, digital innovation

The President of Christ Apostolic Church Nigeria and Overseas, Pastor Samuel Oladele, has urged Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) to strengthen research, digital innovation, entrepreneurship and financial sustainability as the institution marks its 20th anniversary.

Oladele, the university’s visitor and chairman of its Board of Trustees, made the call on Thursday while unveiling activities for the anniversary, themed “Two Decades of Divine Grace, Growth, and Glory.”

He said the milestone offered an opportunity for the university, located in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State, to improve its academic standards, expand research opportunities and equip graduates with the skills needed to succeed in a changing economy.

Highlighting the institution’s achievements, the CAC president cited the increase in the approved admission quota for its College of Law from 50 to 100 students, the development of Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science programmes, and its digital transformation efforts through a partnership with Google.

Oladele stressed that JABU’s mission should go beyond awarding degrees, saying graduates must combine professional competence with integrity, discipline and a commitment to societal development.

He also urged the university to translate its entrepreneurship philosophy into measurable results by producing graduates capable of creating jobs, establishing businesses and contributing to economic growth. He called for increased investment in research, modern infrastructure and digital systems to support these goals.

On institutional development, Oladele emphasised the need for effective governance, financial stability and stronger relationships with alumni, parents and host communities, describing these as essential to the university’s long-term sustainability.

He added that the anniversary provided an opportunity for JABU to preserve its Christian foundation while pursuing greater achievements in teaching, research and innovation. The university was established in honour of Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s indigenous Pentecostal Christian movement.
