Lagos Blue Line to open three new stations by 2027 — LAMATA MD
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to open three additional stations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line by the end of February 2027, increasing the number of operational stations from five to eight.
The new stations are FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair, which are expected to extend rail services to more residents and improve connectivity along the corridor.
The Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, announced this while speaking at the 2026 Media Parley organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
Akinajo said the expansion would bring rail services closer to commuters, provide an alternative to road transportation and improve access to mass transit as the state continues to invest in modern transport infrastructure.
The Blue Line currently operates five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba and Mile 2. The addition of the three new stations is expected to strengthen the network and improve connectivity for residents travelling along the FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair corridor.
Beyond the rail expansion, Akinajo disclosed that four Quality Bus Corridors (QBCs) were nearing completion, while construction work on the Marina and Mile 2 Interchange Hubs had recorded considerable progress.
He added that the planned opening of the stations in early 2027 is expected to expand access to rail transportation and support Lagos State’s efforts to develop a more efficient transport system.
