LASU seeks NUC approval for 2 academic programmes, hosts assessors

The National University Commission (NUC) has assessed two newly introduced academic programmes at Lagos State University (LASU) to determine their compliance with prescribed standards for quality university education.

In a statement posted on X, LASU said the resource assessment, conducted on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, covered B.Sc. Statistics in the Faculty of Science and B.Sc. Ed. Human Kinetics (Sports Management) in the Faculty of Education.

The university said the exercise was an important step towards ensuring that the programmes meet the NUC requirements for quality university education.

The assessment began with an entry meeting at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on the university’s main campus in Ojo.

The university’s delegation was led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin; Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu; Bursar, Mr Olabisi Yusuf; and University Librarian, Dr Omawunmi Makinde.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, Afisi described accreditation as “an essential quality assurance mechanism for promoting academic excellence, institutional accountability and continuous improvement.”

He noted that the process enables institutions to evaluate their programmes against NUC standards and identify areas for improvement.

Afisi also assured the assessors of the university’s cooperation, noting that the relevant faculties and departments were prepared to facilitate the assessment.
