Four killed, 16 injured as container truck crushes bus on Lagos bridge

A tragic early-morning road accident on Berger Bridge along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway in Lagos State has claimed the lives of four adult males and left 16 others with severe injuries.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the disaster unfolded when a speeding, container-laden truck lost control uphill and overturned onto a Toyota Hiace passenger bus.
Following a frantic distress call, emergency responders from the agency’s Beta Whales Team rushed to the scene alongside officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force to provide immediate first aid and transport the injured victims to Epe General Hospital.
To manage the chaotic aftermath, emergency teams deployed heavy-duty private cranes to lift the overturned container and carefully extricate the victims while introducing strategic traffic diversions to ease congestion along the corridor.
In the wake of the Ibeju-Lekki catastrophe, emergency officials were simultaneously called to a secondary crash near Vetland School in Agege, where a recklessly driven truck knocked down a solar-powered streetlight pole before mounting the median.
Meanwhile, a third serious incident occurred along the LASU-Igando axis when a DAF truck, attempting to bypass traffic by driving against the flow of vehicles, collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla and injured its driver.
Following the swift clearance of all three accident sites by joint emergency response teams, the Lagos State Government extended its heart-felt condolences to the bereaved families while wishing the surviving victims a speedy recovery.
Concurrently, state authorities issued a stern warning urging all motorists to observe strict speed limits, refrain from dangerous lane maneuvers, and ensure their vehicles are mechanically sound before setting out on public roads.
