Two men have been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court over the alleged illegal takeover of land belonging to a cooperative society along Idanre Road in Ondo State.

The defendants, Akinboni Ojo and Olorunfemi Adeniyi, are facing a three-count charge bordering on fraudulent land takeover, unlawful possession and encroachment on property belonging to Akure Co-Plantain Multipurpose Society at Ita-Oloorun.

The prosecutor, O.Y. Ojuko, told the court that the defendants and other persons still at large allegedly took over portions of the land in 2021 within the Akure Magisterial District.

Ojuko further alleged that the defendants refused to vacate the property after unlawfully occupying parts of the land.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences contravene Sections 3, 9 and 5 of the Ondo State Properties Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing) and Documentation Law, 2024.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following their pleas, their counsel, Oshadami, applied for bail on liberal terms.

In his ruling, Magistrate O. Omotosho granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties each in like sum.

The court adjourned the case until November 20, 2026, for further hearing.
