Governor Fubara dismisses rumours of planned move to NDC

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has denied speculations linking him with a planned defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fubara stated this on Wednesday during a public engagement in Port Harcourt amid growing rumours surrounding his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The speculation intensified after the governor was absent from the APC screening exercise for incumbent governors held last Saturday.

The absence triggered reactions on social media, with claims that Fubara might be considering dumping the ruling party for the NDC.

However, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda explained that the governor missed the exercise due to official engagements in Rivers State.

Reacting to the rumours, Fubara urged Nigerians not to rely on social media narratives or personal interpretations in assessing his political position.

“I’m a member of the Progressive Congress and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly,” he said.

The governor added that he remained committed to the APC and would continue to support the overall interests of the party.
