Governor Makinde mourns passing of ex-IGP Solomon Arase

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has described the late former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, as one of the finest police officers Nigeria has ever produced.

Makinde stated this in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Print Media, Moses Alao, and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Sunday.

The governor’s reaction followed reports of Arase’s death, which was announced earlier in the day.

According to Makinde, Arase’s passing represents a huge loss to the country, noting that he was one of the most resourceful and experienced retired police chiefs.

“Retired IGP Arase’s death will leave a huge vacuum in the security sector, as he was one of the finest police officers in his days of active service, and one of the retired police chiefs whose experience and expertise could have been useful to Nigeria in years to come,” Makinde said.

The governor further revealed that he had enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the late former police boss, adding that Arase’s wealth of knowledge had been useful to Oyo State at different times.
